‘Shintoism’ is a faith in Japan. The believers of Shintoism pour cold water on their bodies to purify their body and soul as part of an annual Cold-endurance festival. ‘Kanda Myojin’ is one of the known Shinto Shrines in Tokyo.
A similar reference has been made in the book ‘Living with Himalayan Masters’ authored by Swami Rama in which Yogis atop Himalayan peaks would bathe in cold water as part of a self-inflicted rigor to make good for any deviation from their regular spiritual practices.
